Kaelyn’s First Birth: Short Labor, Birth Center, Thought Real Labor was Practice Labor

What a great story! This mama was so relaxed and comfortable, she barely made it to the birth center in time!
The birth went really well. It was super quick (from the time I actually knew I was in labor). I had my beautiful little girl at Better Birth on the 20th of June (1 day before her due date). We arrived there around 3:20 am, and she was born at 4:12 am. Like I said, super quick. The previous day, I was having a lot of practice contractions, like I had for the past 2 months, so I didn’t think much of it. But it was making it a little bit difficult to sleep that night, so I used the rainbow relaxation cd to try to relax enough to sleep. It was working, for a little while… I tried walking around to see if these “practice contractions” would stop, but they didn’t. By 2 am, I knew something was up because my muscles were cramping, so I woke up my husband (Ashley) and called Better Birth… to make a long story short, Ashley carried me to the car, because I couldn’t really walk anymore. My mom came with, and she says she was worried I was going to have the baby right there in the car. By the time we got there, I was “complete”, fully dilated! I pushed until my water broke, quickly got in the tub, and had a beautiful baby girl! She was 8 lbs 9 oz, 19 inches long, 10 fingers, 10 toes, absolutely perfect! We named her Elsie, after Ashley’s Grandmother. I learned something important that day; The contractions that don’t hurt really ARE real, and you should count those ones if you’re timing them!
Overall, I had a great experience. Elsie is still doing very well!  Thanks so much for everything!
