I am a HUGE proponent of using midwives rather that OBGYNs, and although I’ve never had a homebirth, I think they are wonderful! Here is a great article on the subject. I was especially interested in the statistics about birthing in the US. We have the highest Cesarean Section rate in the world, and one of the highest infant mortality rates. Also, our maternal mortality rate is increasing while every other country is decreasing. What’s wrong with this picture? Could it be that 99% of our births happen in hospitals? Hmmmmm….
